After some much needed rest and breakfast, it was time to do a bit of sight seeing in Pembroke, take back the rental car and make our way over to Ireland. Pembroke Castle was simply breathtaking in a way these images don’t convey. And fortunately the gods took pity on us and once again the weather was perfect…

Once we figured out where to return the car and when the ferry was leaving, we made our way over to the docks. We had to wait about an hour before we could board. We took this one in the waiting area:

And this was our ferry, as seen from the waiting area:

The trip to Ireland was about 4 hours and were able to get some pictures from the top deck along the way:

Once we arrived in Rosslare, we barely made it in time to rent another car. (We had reserved the car online and had specifically requested a VW Golf and ended up with an absolute rubbish Ford Mondeo. I didn’t even bother wasting the time it took to photograph the damned thing.) It was early evening once we were on the road and dusk by the time we got to the Waterford Castle where we stayed for the night. This was definitely one of the most amazing places we stayed on the entire trip and was a brilliant way to spend our first night in Ireland.
The castle is on its own island and we had to take a little ferry to get there. Due to the time of day, we didn’t get any pictures of the outside until the next morning. But we did go over to the little pub before bed for a glass of wine and a pint.

The morning greeted us with more spectacular weather. Here is a shot from our room that morning:

We eventually made it down to the beautiful breakfast area and enjoyed some very tasty food:

Alli sneaked around and took a bunch of photos of most of the rooms. Below is the bedroom of the “Presidential Suite” (where we did NOT stay) and the dining room:

We then took what seemed like about an hour and enjoyed the lovely grounds:

After an absolutely wonderful morning, it was time to be on our way out to the ferry and moving on…

Our next stop is Galway… Pt.10
